Dove Creek Elementary School
LPB assisted in the procurement of the property for Oconee County Schools, which was a thorough process that would also contain the new Dove Creek Elementary School. To avoid nearby risk hazards (high voltage power, state highways, etc.) the location selected required no mitigations for any risk hazards. Avoiding these mitigation costs helped the Owner purchase the property as well as small adjacent parcels.
This particular portion of Highway 53 did not provide access to public sewer utilities. The alternative was to treat on-site with a Land Application System (LAS). The soil was tested and was deemed suitable to not only treat the new school, but a future school as well.
The design of the site was derived by locating the LAS at the best soils, which were in the rear. The property frontage on Highway 53 would be used for a shared bus drive. The side streets would help pull traffic off of Highway 53 and be designated for car riders.
Providing shared amenities that two schools can utilize on a common property provides not only construction cost savings but helps plan for the future as well.
