Lyman Hall Elementary School
The existing building at this campus consisted of a Main Building built in 1971, which had several additions. The additions included a Gym Addition in 1986, two Classroom Additions in 1996 and 2001 and the last addition of a Modular building in 2007. This site sloped from rear to front with 3 tiers of grade elevation. The proposed concept was to continue the one-story design to match the existing single-story structure to be located on the middle tier grade level.
The main building was completely gutted and retrofitted as part of the administration and classroom addition. The program for this campus called for 60 instructional units. The new additions/construction houses the gym, learning commons, cafeteria, kitchen and classrooms.
The biggest challenge was to perform all of the construction while the campus was occupied. Construction will be in Phases without any temporary trailers for classrooms. The final building floor plan design is to provide better, much needed functional spaces and circulation.
