Rockdale County Schools Central Office

In 2018, Rockdale County Public Schools decided to renovate the phased-out old Pine Street Elementary School building and transform it into an office building. Located in the heart of Olde Downtown Conyers the existing vacant school building was a perfect case for revitalizing the old structure and constructing the new 2-story addition. LPB designed a new state of the art 82,000 s.f. office campus that became a home not only to all RCPS departments (which previously were spread across several locations in leased office spaces), a Board Room and a very attractive Café “Good Rock”, but also plays a vital role for the local community. The old Gymnasium was transformed into a Fitness center for office employees.

This marriage of all departments under one roof has enabled them to function cohesively and communicate easily. By improving storm drainage around the building, we were able to utilize the existing courtyard by providing a great exterior space for the office employees and for the community to host outdoor functions.

LPB’s challenge was to renovate and build out this facility in phases, moving departments into the building as areas were finished. This was accomplished by close coordination between the Architect, Construction Manager and Rockdale County Facility Planning department.
